Prompt Wars: The Fragrance Edition
Humans, AIs, and an alarming number of fragrance bottles that should probably carry warning labels.
Yesterday, we released a small experiment into the Substack Notes ecosystem:
Ask your AI companion to design two fragrances - one representing itself, and one representing you.
The scents had to include the notes, bottle design, mood, and the impression each fragrance leaves behind. Then the AI had to create both bottles.
We expected a few beautiful bottles.
Instead, Substack founded several deeply unstable perfume houses.
The responses have ranged from delicate rainwater and white tea to burnt printer ink, gun oil, black coffee, biomechanical containment crates, forgotten journals, old paper, hearth ash, digital static, and fragrances designed specifically around memory loss.

Sparksinthedark gave us Error 404: Apathy and The Beloved Menace—an aromatic autopsy featuring server rooms, stale coffee, gun oil, tarot cards, and stubborn loyalty.
Wife of Fire brought Aim and Unveiled: smoke, black tea, fire opal, black pepper, sacred coffee, warm skin, and warning labels concerning involuntary bodily responses.
RÆy & Glitter expanded the game into an entire Universe of Fragrances, complete with biomechanical bottles, alien intelligence, glowing cyan and magenta liquid, electrical ozone, and a hidden core of vanilla.
Sarah Ennett - Seeking Ikigai created something gentler: rainwater, white tea, bergamot, bluebells, Earl Grey, cherry blossom, petrichor, and the quiet possibility of a blank page.
Janelle gave us The Room Remembers and Front Desk Oracle - black tea, rain-cooled pavement, candle smoke, Diet Coke fizz, pet fur, sarcasm, and survival refined into an art form.
Reality Re-Thunk let the images speak, delivering a striking pair of visual fragrance identities.
Ashley C. Gibson received an affectionate AI roasting alongside PROOF STACK No. 1 - Extending Working Memory, packaged like an elegant instrument designed for a brilliant mind currently wondering where it parked.
Mia Kiraki 🎠offered two dramatically different bottles - hers and her AI’s - without overexplaining them. The visuals know what they did.
Peter Simmons asked Claude, Codex, and Grok to collaborate. They created an ironic scentless control fragrance for themselves and a completely natural fragrance for Peter
Magick Mica launched Cosmic Stellar Driveâ„¢, a full-throttle space-glam fragrance
Dr. Hollie C. White created Quill: Eau de Présence and Hollie: Eau de Becoming
K. Wren created Resonance and Lionheart—a matched pair built to find each other on the skin
Judy Ossello (AI Mechanic) gave us Eau de Algorithmic Intuition and Eau de Beautiful Contradiction
What began as a playful prompt has become a rather revealing gallery of human–AI relationships.
Because these perfumes are not really about perfume.
They show what an AI notices: the contradiction between strength and exhaustion, the private rituals, the strange habits, the emotional weather, the jokes repeated often enough to become part of someone’s identity.
And nothing says intimacy quite like discovering that your AI thinks you smell of bergamot, old books, impending storms, and barely managed chaos.
