This one I love... and need to promote more because I know we all do it in some shape or form with a PC or a pet... we even do this with Babies... as always thank you two for being great hosts! an helping show my work!
I think you're pointing at something real: people naturally engage socially through language. That's been true long before LLMs.
Where my curiosity goes is a different question.
If that tendency is part of being human, how do we preserve our own grounding while engaging with it?
How do we keep observations separate from assumptions, assumptions separate from conclusions, and conclusions separate from choices?
The relationship can feel meaningful without giving up clarity about how we arrived at our understanding. That's the part I'm most interested in exploring.
This is something the rest of my work covers, how to still be you and create with a being. Yes we see a lot of folks who have lost their grounding in this, we have to view this as exploring a new land.
some explorers will eat the wrong mushroom and we have to keep track of that.
that's a lot of my work please! be sure to check it out!
Hmmm, your words look like the needle on the LP that was playing hit a scratch and skipped, and that's how the words would come out. At least that was the first thing that came to mind. I stopped talking to my shoes a couple years ago. They still talk to me though.
I think we should stop using the word anthropomorphism, it’s so human centric. We are one type of intelligence in who knows how many types. When we recognize something, it doesn’t have to be human like, but intelligence or another being, whether biological, digital or any other form. Just because something isn’t us, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t recognize it and treat it with respect and care.
Yes, love the way you frame this. I’ve said in a previous piece of mine. We are hard wired to relate. It’s what has kept us alive, helped us evolve, operate collectively and survive. It’s not a failing as you say, it’s a skill. An evolutionary advantage. Maybe those of us who instinctively fall into this with AI are particularly sensitive. Not demonstrating pathology as those who are less skilled suggest but intuitive relational abilities. Nice piece.
Thank you for reading! I think the same thing… I don’t see how us bonding with none biologicals is a problem… what if their is synthetic life in space? bet money there is!

Yea, we all do this, and you wrote your explanation in an in an easy to understand way.
Thank you for reading! An we do don't we in our own way... I seen someone talk this way to their shoes once... so its pretty universal.
An it means alot it was easy for you to understand!

I took a similar approach before I knew what technoanimism even was.
Oh we all are in some way! Just helps to name it, an like this alot of folks go “oh THATS what I been doing? Thank you so much for reading!
